Tabletop sweeteners

Authorized sweetener preparations, which may contain other additives and/or food ingredients and are intended for sale to final consumers as a sugar substitute.

Technical specification

Document that prescribes the technical requirements that an EU fertilizing product, its manufacturing process, or its sampling and analysis methods must meet.

Technological adjuvant

A substance that:

i) is not consumed as a food itself;

ii) is intentionally used in the processing of raw materials, foods, or their ingredients, to perform a specific technological function in processing; and

iii) may give rise to the unintentional but technically unavoidable presence of residues of that substance or its derivatives in the finished product, provided that these residues do not pose a health risk and have no technological effects on the finished product.

Tests and studies

Research or experiments aimed at determining the properties and behavior of an active substance or plant protection product, predicting exposure to active substances and/or their relevant metabolites, determining safe exposure levels, and establishing the conditions for the safe use of such products.

Total Specific Migration Limit (SML(T))

Maximum permitted amount of certain substances released into foods or food simulants, expressed as the total of the components of the listed substances.

Traditional food from a third country

A novel food as defined in point (a) of this paragraph, other than novel foods referred to in points (i), (iii), (vii), (viii), (ix) and (x) of that point, derived from primary production as defined in point 17 of Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, which has a history of safe use as food in a third country.

Trans fatty acids

Fatty acids containing at least one nonconjugated double bond (i.e., interrupted by at least one methylene group) between carbon atoms in the trans configuration.

Transit

Movement from one third country to another third country involving passage, under customs supervision, through one of the territories listed in Annex I, or from one of the territories listed in Annex I to another territory listed in the same Annex after having passed through the territory of a third country, except as provided for by the rules referred to in Article 1(2)(g), in which case one of the following options shall be indicated:

a) Movement from one third country to another third country, as defined in the first subparagraph of Article 1(3) of Regulation (EU) 2016/2031, involving passage, under customs supervision, through the "Union territory" as defined in the second subparagraph of Article 1(3) of that Regulation; or

(b) Movement from the "Union territory" to another part of the "Union territory" as defined in the second subparagraph of Article 1(3) of Regulation (EU) 2016/2031, involving passage through the territory of a third country as defined in the first subparagraph of Article 1(3) of that Regulation.
