Competent authority

(a) the central authorities of a Member State responsible for organising official controls and other official activities, in accordance with this Regulation and the rules referred to in Article 1(2) [Regulation (EU) 2017/625, Editor's note];

(b) any other authority to which such competence has been conferred;

(c) where appropriate, the corresponding authorities of a third country.

Competent authority

Competent control authority for the organic sector

A public body of a Member State responsible for organic production and labelling of organic products, to which the competent authorities have conferred, in whole or in part, their powers in relation to the application of Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007, including, where applicable, the corresponding authority of a third country or operating in a third country.

Compliance with microbiological criteria

Obtaining satisfactory or acceptable results as referred to in Annex I in checks to ensure compliance with the values ​​set for the criteria by taking samples, conducting analyses, and implementing corrective measures, in accordance with food law and the instructions of the competent authority.

Contaminant

Any substance not intentionally added to food, present as a result of production (including cultivation, breeding, and veterinary medicine), manufacturing, processing, preparation, treatment, packaging, transport, or storage.

Contamination

The presence or introduction of a hazard.

Continuation formula

Food intended for infants when appropriate complementary feeding is introduced and which constitutes the principal liquid element in a progressively diversified diet of such infants.
